ALL CAPS Publication Update

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

I stopped by the Daily Illini offices this afternoon to fill out all the paperwork and finalize everything for publication.  As it turns out, ALL CAPS will be published DAILY, not weekly as I first assumed!  Apparently, I didn’t read the entire email with the job offer (which my girlfriend pointed out to me today).  This means that, starting next week, ALL CAPS will also be posted DAILY to this website.

Anyway, I was able to confirm what I’ll be allowed to do in the print version of the comic.  Since I’m used to online publication, I’m not used to having to censor myself.  In any case, I was told that I can’t say “fuck, bitch, cunt, or any of those sorts of words” (as the editor explained).  I’m assuming this also includes twat, cock, cum, skeet, motherfucker, and probably more that I can’t think of right now.  I am, however, allowed to say shit, crap, ass, and damn.  ”If they can say it on TV, we can print it,” quoth the editor.  I assume that last statement also holds true for situations, so that technically gives me a lot of liberty; however, I was also told that they would prefer me to be “subtle” when it comes to potentially offensive situations.

All that aside, I will NOT be censoring the webcomic.  ALL CAPS will continue to be posted in its current, full-color form here.

Here’s How This Is Gonna Work…

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Tomorrow morning the first edition of the Daily Illini featuring ALL CAPS will be available!  I made a completely new comic to serve as the introduction to the print version of the comic.  The next comic will be featured in the paper on Friday, then from Monday on, the comic will be printed daily.

That being said, in order to give the printed comics time to catch up with the website, I will be posting the next comic on Sunday (as usual), then the next comic on the following Thursday.  After that point the web and printed comics will be posted simultaneously every day.

So for anyone in the Champaign-Urbana area, I recommend you pick up a copy of tomorrow’s Daily Illini.  Save it… Cherish it… It could be a collector’s item some day ;)
