New Format: Fewer Comics + Weekly Reviews

by Mark on June 17, 2011 at 3:11 pm
Posted In: News

I’ve decided to change things up a bit here at ALL CAPS.  Instead of publishing three comics per week, which has been a bit of a struggle some weeks, I’ve decided to cut back to two comics per week.  Comics will now be published on Mondays and Fridays every week.  Hopefully this will translate into better quality work that doesn’t feel like such a rush job some days.

Another reason for the change is that I’d also like to take some time to highlight webcomics I’ve found and enjoyed.  To that end, I’ll be publishing a weekly webcomic review every Wednesday (Webcomic Wednesdays!) starting next week.  There are a lot of interesting things being published, and while I’ve tried my best to provide links to comics that I enjoy on a regular basis, the links don’t really tell you much about why I think they’re worth checking out.

In any case, enjoy today’s comic, and I’ll see you all again on Monday.

Nate Powell – Day 2

Nate’s presentation today was fantastic!  The guy is a real wealth of information.  The venue was completely packed, too!

Afterward, Nate took some time to hang out and chat with my students about Swallow Me Whole.

Anyway, just one more picture to post, then I’ll stop gushing.  If you haven’t noticed, I’ve got a bit of a comix man-crush.

Look for a new comic tomorrow morning!

Nate Powell’s Workshop

Nate’s workshop at Pulaski Tech today was fantastic.  Nate has a great presence, and the students responded very well to everything he shared.  During the hour and a half that he presented and fielded questions, he was able to touch on topics ranging from technical aspects of drawing and comic production to business and marketing considerations that would be important for people working in any creative field.

On top of all that, it was a lot of fun getting a chance to hang out and chat with someone whose work I’ve enjoyed so much over the past few years.  If you haven’t read any of his books yet, I can’t recommend them enough!

For the last couple of months, I’ve been in correspondence with Nate Powell, author of Swallow Me Whole, Please Release, and a great number of really good comics.  He agreed to come speak and hold a workshop at Pulaski Technical College, where I teach in Little Rock, AR.

Now that day, which perpetually seemed to be far in the distant future, is here – tomorrow, in fact!  Needless to say, I’m excited to finally meet him, and it’s a little surreal to know that all of the work I’ve put into coordinating these events is finally coming to fruition.

If you happen to be in the North Little Rock area tomorrow or Tuesday around noon, feel free to stop by and see what’s going on!  Tomorrow, Nate will be hosting a comics-making workshop at 12:15pm in the PTC visual arts studios.  Tuesday, he’ll be presenting and answering questions about his art in the PTC Grand Hall on the first floor of the Campus Center Building.  The following is the address for Pulaski Technical College:

3000 W. Scenic Dr.

N. Little Rock, AR 72118
