I make no claims about the veracity of Jack Black’s take on theology, but he definitely has a point about Christians “picking and choosing” the parts of the Bible they want to practice.

If you’ve got some time, go check out the comments on this video… It’s both funny and sobering to see people lobbing accusations of bigotry back and forth on this issue. According to The American Heritage Dictionary (via Dictionary.com), a bigot is “one who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.” Based on this definition, it seems fairly apparent to me who the real bigots are.

In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t all that long ago in this country that women couldn’t vote or own property or that people of African descent couldn’t vote, go to regular schools, or even get legally married. These people (and many others) had to fight to be afforded the same rights as white, protestant men. They protested, boycotted, staged sit-ins and other demonstrations, gave speeches and held rallies, and endured violence, name-calling, and oppression (both direct and institutionalized). Anyone who fails to see the parallels between those situations and the current fight for gay rights has blinded her/himself to the lessons taught us by our past.

]]> http://www.allcapscomix.com/2008/12/prop-8-the-musical/feed/ 0 New Schedule http://www.allcapscomix.com/2008/12/new-schedule/ http://www.allcapscomix.com/2008/12/new-schedule/#comments Tue, 02 Dec 2008 16:20:15 +0000 Mark http://www.allcapscomix.com/?p=139 I suppose there’s no avoiding it – I’m switching to three days a week instead of five.  I really hate to do it, but as I mentioned previously, I think I can put out higher quality work on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule.  As you may have already noticed, I’m also producing more than three panels at a time for some of the strips, which is another part of the reason for the schedule change.  Also, I’ve got way too much shit to do already.  Publishing every day in the Daily Illini was seriously wearing me thin, and now I’ve got a fuckload of grading and writing to catch up on.  This motherfucker’s got a day job!

Anyway, I hope you all are enjoy the new, more open format.  Producing a daily comic strip was never really my goal when I started this project, and now that I don’t have to worry about fitting my shit into a 5.75″ x 1.85″ box, I can do whatever the fuck I want!
